I bought a couple of Nicholai Steindler's Pyrex tone bars and have been pleased with them. They are quite light (if you like that) easy to maneuver and well made. The clear one has a reflection of the strings which are bent. It's very Star Treklike. stevet

Thanks Steve! I do appreciate it and it was a pleasure doing business.

To those worried about a lighter bar, they are much heavier then traditional bottleneck, and I can make them larger and thicker then the ones Steve got (though they are much lighter then a traditional steel bar, weights listed in my thread about them). I think this is a good thing, not a drawback, it is something different. Also, satisfaction guaranteed. Someday I might have some different heavier ones for sale, right now I am concentrating on what's not out there. Pyrex was last sold in the early eighties (by Dunlop), so here I am!

Steve is the man.

On the subject of glass slides and weight, the most famous glass slide, the "Coricidin Bottle" (used by greats such as Duane Allman) weigh in at 50.4 grams. I'm still working on figuring out its glass type. Mine weigh at a minimum of twice that. I really love the sound of glass soloing with a tad of compression and grit. It's a thing of beauty. If there is any interest, I might do a bar based on the weight etc of the Coricidin bottle at some point too. Thanks MLA for letting me borrow an original one for testing. Obviously weight isn't everything, but it helps with the .60 gauge strings. That reminds me, I like light chords played on glass. Heavy work too, but theres something to it with "light chords".
