Hey Guys,

I recently got a hold of a sweet Mullen D-10 from the early 90's. It's a blue Lacquer that right now looks amazing. In cruising around on the "for sale" section I've seen some seriously faded early lacquer Mullens and Sho-Bud LDGs. How can I keep this from happening to mine?

Is it a sunlight thing? My current steel setup is that I have a S-10 I take to practice, and I want to keep this assembled in my music room. Right now it's in a room in the back corner of my house that is near a window but wont get direct light. Is that OK?

Any other care tips appreciated. I'm still fairly new to PSG, so I don't want to screw up the finish. I think I understand care tips like lubing the mechanics.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

P.S. I'm sure this has come up before, but I couldn't find it with a search. Sorry if I missed something obvious

Jon you should probably get a good cover for it, eg: D2F's offerings, and keep it covered when your not playing.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I can confirm that an early-90's blue lacquer Mullen is definitely subject to major fading!

I got mine (it's a '94) used about four years ago, so I don't know what conditions it had seen, but it looked like this when I got it:

It was originally a bright peacock blue! I've seen the color under the pickups.

The other day I walked into my study early in the morning and discovered the sun beating down on the back apron of my Fessenden, which I had uncharacteristically failed to cover after playing the night before. No, it didn't fade on the spot, but it was easy to see whata beating a lacquer finish can take just from sitting there.
