I just picked up a 53 stringmaster D8 in the pawn shop. It's a beater, but the price was right. I've been playing E9th pedal steel for a year or so, but I don't have any familiarity with the island tunings used on this guitar . . . it appears that A6 and E13 are the most commonly used, but I'd like to use tunings for which there is a good bit of instructional materials out there available. So, I've got the following questions:
- What tunings should have the most instructional materials available Question Since the guitar is 26" scale, what guages should I use Question
- Any idea what tunings it came from the factory with Question

Thanks, ya'lls expert advice is sincerley appreciated!
Very Happy
Thomas

Congratulations on the new baby ! Smile

You'll probably find more instructional materials written for C6th than any other tuning.

The late , great Rick Alexander is who i'd turn to for string guages on a Stringmaster, if only for the sheer number of them that he owned.
You can find all of his tunings and setups here:

I've got a single neck 53 and I like they way A6 sounds on it. Thats because I like the 5 on the high string. C6 with the 3 on top would have the same sound and feel, more or less. That low string sounds great on a longer scale.

Thanks Stan! Looks like that quad is long scale as well, so the string gauges he provided were a big help. I appreciate the info Very Happy
