I was practicing my playing, when all of a sudden I was not getting any sound from my amp. I have Stereo Steel amp with a Digitech Studio Quad 4 processor. Which the processor has been giving me some prblems, lately. And I have a Steel Guitar Black Box. I have power going to my equipment. I don't think my speakers have been blown out, because they are not rattling in the cones. I hope it is an over heat problem. If it's an over heat problem, I can just let it sit overnight and let it cool down. And try again in the morning. I have them both in an SKB rack, however I have a space between the amp and the processor to let air in. I do know it's not the fuse, because if it were, the sound would be distorted.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any advice at this point would seem premature BUT ;
Try going directly from the guitar to the amp and see if that works ok . If so start adding things back into the chain one at a time til you find which one is causing the trouble . If you are using a volume pedal that requires power (Hilton,etc.) check to see if the powe to it is working . |

OK....if your cord is good from the guitar to the amp and there is no signal then it has to be either something wrong with the amp or the pickup/input jack on the guitar . Make sure when you hook up the guitar straight to the amp that you use the instrument input NOT the LINE IN . ALSO try another amp if you have one and see if the guitar works . If so then it is the Stereo Steel amp . It's merely a process of elimination . |

Tommy...It may very well be a fuse. The only problem I ever had with my Stereo Steel was that it blows fuses easily, which in the long run can be a positive because it will protect your equipment from possible damage. If the fuse does blow however, the system will shut down entirely not just cause distortion as you mentioned. (I used to keep a spare container of fuses taped to the inside rear cover of the rack.) |

I looked at the fuse, David. There is a slight bend in the wire inside of the fuse but no burn marks suggesting a blow. Unless it may be blown, and it is hard to detect.

I went ahead and changed out the fuse. I turned it on, still had power but no sound |

YOu might check your speaker connector, Tommy, I have had the 1/4" plugs go sideways on me in the past with the same results that you describe. |

I have found the problem, it is in the volume pedal. I just got the pedal out of the shop, the other week ago. I hooked the cable from the guitar to the input on my amp and it worked, I had sound.
Thanks for the help,

Me too, Dave. The string on the shaft came undone. The pot was in the off position. About a three minute job, that actually lasted about three minutes.
Thanks again for all of the help from the great people of the Forum.
