To the Forum, I want to continue the other thread on the copedent study. We are just getting started there with the presentation of the E9/ZB Tuning. I have a lot more to cover there including the C6 study.

Many folks comment on my playing and I've heard all kinds of funny things from flying fingers to passing the sound barrier. I'm not exactly sure how it all started because I never set out to be a "speed picker". Zane Beck was not a "fast" picker so that was not something he encouraged. He certainly didn't discourage it either. That said, I have to tell you that I FIRMLY believe the tuning copedent is my key to success. I believe my other posts are beginning to shed some light on this. My hope is that you can see that I have some advantages just built in under my hands.

So I'm going to start this 2nd thread on fast picking, speed picking, etc. Today, you will see that I've posted a video that showcases a no pedal no knee engagement exercise. I have used this since I was 9 years old. It is as routine for me as a piano player practicing scales.

I want to you to also take careful notice of my RIGHT HAND movement. You will see that at no time does my fingers actually leave my hand.
Very Happy Couldn't resist. Seriously, I do not use this thumb, middle finger technique that started many years ago. I've tried it. Slows me down. I will show you some pics of my picks on the next post. I think you will see one of my tricks that very people know. At least, I have yet to hardly find anyone that does. Most people just shake their heads and say I could never that...you can and will!

Nice. I think you're close to the speed of light. My mind can't think that fast. Thanks for the youtubes, I enjoy them.

Here is another step toward my approach on Speed Picking. This is just a look at the finger picks and the right hand position.

Hi Zane, did I miss something? Is that a BMI or one you or your Dad built? Reason for the question I am curious about the neck. I have a 2009 D10 BMI that I would love to have more conventional necks on it like what you have on that guitar. Mine plays great but the neck and fretboard plays tricks on my eyes and I can't play it comfortably with certainty that I am going to hit the strings I intend to. I would like to change out the necks.
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry - This is the guitar that my Dad rebuilt. That actually is an Emmon's neck that I bought many years ago. I'm sure my Dad or Don Fritche can help you convert that neck if you don't want to tackle it yourself. First things first though we'll have to find someone that will sell us a neck like that. You'll no doubt need 2 (10) string necks. ZK

Thanks Zane, I really could enjoy this BMI if I could feel familiar with the necks. I have primarily played Emmons guitars since 1981, however, I am a BMI dealer and would really like to play this BMI at some shows. It has the Turner pickups and sounds so good. I have given thought to making some maple necks and a maple front apron panel to match for this guitar. It has 8 levers so the neck screws are going to be hard to get to as the undercarriage is covered up with cross shafts.

My Dad has been making those maple necks and aprons for them. They work great. You really should discuss this with him. I know they made one for "Cowboy" Eddie Long and he loves it. You are right it will be challenging to change it but I know it can be done. You can see that my guitar is an all wood body (unlike any BMI), aluminum neck, Emmons single coil 12 pickup (very nice), and then the double throw keyless. It's truly an amazing instrument. I just hope we can find a way to duplicate them over and over! Hard work though.

My Dad's email is johniewking@gmail.com You guys can exchange numbers from that point.

THANKS!
