I've tabbed out an arrangement of Sugarfoot Rag for anyone who wants to learn it. The tuning is C6 and it is playable on a 6 string steel. It is a lot of fun to play. This arrangement is a little different than the version I recorded earlier and is much closer to the original recording.

The one catch is, I'd like for you to make a recording of yourself playing it. You don't have to post it here on the internet (but you can, if you'd like), but it would make me happy if you'd send me a copy of it through email. I've have a backing track that I'll gladly share with you, although the tempo may require you to work up to it.

BTW, you should be able to enlarge these images by clicking on the image when it is open. You can print it out, as it was created in 8 1/2 x 11 size.

By the way, if you do use this backing track, please note that the first 2 bars (8 beats) are for count in purposes, and then you play the first 4 bars of the melody alone with drums.

If you like this kind of thing and you haven't picked it up already, my Four Wheel Drive DVD might be of interest to you. It gives you some great ideas for improvising over a tune like this at a brisker tempo. As always, have fun!

Eddie, after so many wonderful contributions from forum members over the years who helped me in numerous ways, like Rick Aiello, Herb Steiner, Ricky Davis, Bill Hatcher, Michael Lee Allen, Rick Alexander and many others whose names are escaping me at the moment, I'm glad I can give a little something back to the forum.

Not trying to hijack your thread, Mike, but your tab got me motivated to put down what I have been fooling with on E13, the bottom 8 strings of Tom Morrell's tuning. I first heard Sugarfoot Rag on an Emmons album where it was coupled with Indian Killed A Woodcock. Here is Sugarfoot in A but I had to transpose IKAW.

Cool, Guy. Thanks for adding that version. I also play Buddy's version on C6, but in order to be able to play the first 4 notes of bar 1 (not the pickup), I had to detune string 1 in C6 down to D. That is what I am using on this snippet, except I decided not to play the little downward dip this time:

Sugarfoot Rag clip (short)

This version does not match the above tab/notation--there are several major differences. In some ways, it is easier to play.
