Topic: what year my ZB S10 ? |

| my ZB S10 is in pieces and disassembled so i dont have any pics but on the bottom of endplate is 'scratched' the numbers 269-26-5911 fretboard is black any idea what year this was made? thanks |

ZB's will have a stamped serial number on the bottom of the changer end endplate. Most of them are 4 digits. I have seen more numbers though from the Brumley/Texas built guitars. That number you posted looks like someones social security number.

here's some pics of some of the parts they may help to date this ZB. I dont remember the decal or if it was there before i removed the finish. I was repairing a hole burnt into the the cabinet probably a cigarette. It was a medium or dark brown color. No # stamped onto the changer endplate only those #'s scratched onto it.

The pedals are from the 68' Scranton era but also used in 69' when Tom Brumley bought the company and moved it to Bakersfield. The difference is ball end pedal rod connectors instead of the push pin type used on the Zane built guitars. The keyhead is 69' and the endplate is 69'- 70'. Earlier guitars would have an extra row of holes for the endplate tuners. If there are 2 slots for pullrods in the changer fingers, its a Bakersfield guitar about 1969. If there is 3 slots in the changer fingers, its a 68' built in Scranton, Ark. If you still have the volume and tone pots, they will have a date code on them and get you close to the year of manufacture. Looking at the pics, it sure looks like a 69' Bakersfield built guitar from what I have seen.

here's a pic below of underneath the changer endplate and of the burn hole repair i did some time ago(im hope to do some magic to make the hairline circle dissappear. It doesnt appear to me that a stamped # was ground off the endplate. this zb was a two tone med brown/blond. Cant decide yet which way to go with color definitely a two tone, the middle either original blond or honey amber. My first steel ages ago was a S10 ZB two tone green/blonde white fretboard with DOTS no chess board. Ive never seen dots on any other zb. the most beautiful tone with rarified heavenly highs above 12th fret. Being my first steel guitar i thought, "oh...this is what steel guitars do". I sold this zb years ago to a friend for $150. since then I've been through a short list of horns but none of them did THAT. I believe that zb is still in my area somewhere and can be tracked down. The friend i sold it to and i are currntly in a band together it has passed thru one maybe two other owners in the area. Im sure i can track it down and make an offer. It'd be a great retro rebuild candidate.
 Im very currious about the serial #.
Im hoping the S10 i now have has the same qualities. Didnt play it much before breaking it down.
