For sale- 1937 Gibson eh-150 10 string lap steel in excellent condition. This guitar has an interesting history, as it was purchased along with a 1939 Gibson eh-185 amp, the top of the line amplifier. I saw the exact amp in a picture of Charlie Christian while he was recording with Benny Goodman in 1940 or 41.The original owner ,Clair Cline ,a U.S fighter pilot was gunned down in Holland, captured, and spent 18 months as a P.O.W, where, in his boredom, constructed a violin out of scraps of wood. Anyways, the guitar is in excellent original cond, and the amp is in near mint condition. It appears that less than 10 of these laps were ever produced, and only 60 185 amps, with separate tone and bass controls were made. pics available upon interest. Cheers... |

Because of the rarity and museum quality of these two items,I have not yet set a price. I've been told by enthusiasts that the amp is worth between $ 2,500 - 3,500 and the lap somewhere between $ 3,000- very, very, expensive. I will try to post pics soon. It is very possible that the set will be auctioned on ebay later this week, unless I get some offers from appreciative steel guitar folks. Cheers...Greg |
