Thanks for the tip, Mike. I love videos like these where you can see what the steel player is doing throughout the song. He's an excellent player but doesn't do a bunch of flashy stuff that would make us relative beginners feel like we'd never be able to play it. Just good tone and tasteful fills -- exactly what I'm looking for.

For those of you who don't feel like searching, here's a link to start from:

I feel like an idiot asking this, but could somebody tell me what kind of string blocking Tony is using in these videos? I sure don't see his palm touching the strings, except for the occasional plop-down to end a phrase. But if he's pick blocking, I'm not able to see that, either.

John, to me it looks like a combination of pick-and palm blocking. It's very subtle.

Lloyd Green's style is different than that but again very subtle and a style all his own and darn near impossible to figure out.
(Just to illustrate two blocking styles that are different from the "norm" but that work for the individual picker)

Hey, thanks guys for taking time to watch my stuff on youtube. I learnt steel as other instruments, totally by ear, no tuition and don't read a thing. My style ( if there is one) has just developed over the years and, although probably totally wrong, as Bent says it works for me and, if a few players can gain something from the videos, that's great. All basic stuff really.
Anyway, thanks again, really appreciate all comments from forum members.
