never mind I figured it out...well actually my smart wife did. For the reocrd when you are using ez drummer and ez player you have to "toggle" between the two. they both can't be on at the same time. Yup I an idiot...sigh...lol
So far I love Reaper and EZ D _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Hey dino
I'm hooked!! planning on buying the license soon. It has everything I need. I am still gonna multi track on my Roland but everything will go to the reaper for final mix.
I also got the jazz kit for EZ drummer. LOVE IT!!!!
great loops for the old country and swing. _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Man, I wouldn't mind getting with you sometime as I'm just starting to learn all this as well..lol. Especially the whole midi thing. I understand the concept but I've never really messed with it very deep. I've purchased some great books about Reaper too. Some really great things in Reaper. I could see it becoming the new industry standard in time! _________________ Dino Strunk |

I would be more than glad to show you what I know buddy. WE'll get together. I didi MIDI ALOT when it was in it's infant stages but now for drums especially it is excellent what they are doing. I'll send you some samples of the EZD stuff which is midi/analog/midi it's awesome. Talk to you soon _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

OK here si my next question... Can you convert MIDI tracks to seperate audio tracks in REAPER? (bass, snare, hat, etc) _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Scott,
I use ProTools and I'm not really familiar with Reaper, but in most software what you do is send the output of your EZDrummer tracks to output busses. Then create new audio tracks and use the same busses as the input for your new audio tracks.
For example, if you have a stereo mix for the EZdrummer on tracks 3 & 4, send the output of 3 & 4 to (choose your busses) say busses 12 & 13. Then use busses 12 & 13 as the input for your two new audio tracks and ... viola... you have your drums on audio tracks.
Clear as mud?
By the way, I enjoyed hearing you play Saturday night in Tulsa.

Scott, I forgot to mention one thing. As for separating the tracks, go into the EZDrummer mixer section and you can assign each individual drum to whatever track you want. I think I usually use 7 tracks for the drums.
The same principal applies as in my previous post. Assign each track to a separate buss, then send the output of those busses to the input of new audio tracks. Use as many as you want as long as you have plenty of busses available.

Yes, separating the drums tracks is a function of EZ drummer, good call David...I use Cakewalk Sonar 8 Pro ( on XP ) and although I can separate the tracks, I don't, I generally just use the EZ drummer mixer to bring in the mix, currently I have no million dollar sellers on the radio so it's not that big of a deal ! But, yes it can be done....
I believe ( David ?? ) you may have to have EZ drummer "OPEN" for each separate track occurrence which will be a memory hog for a PC ( XP) machine.

Tony,
I only use one occurance of the plugin (kick track), if that is what you mean by having it "open", so it really doesn't eat up a bunch of memory. It may use a little more memory than just a single stereo track setup, but it sure makes for easier mixing in the conventional way. I've never noticed it using a large amount of memory with WinXP and RAM maxed out at 4GB. XP will only recognize 3.5GB.
I believe the main install disc (or download from the Toontrack website) comes with a template file that has a multitrack setup. I'm pretty sure they have them for many different formats (ProTools, Sonar, etc.).
I just saved the template after a small amount of tweaking to my preferences, and use it for new songs.

David, thank you for that, I never really took notice of how much resources changed with a few "open" occurrences of EZ drummer. Mostly the issues arise for me when other HOGS such as Fender Amplitude etc..have a few "open occurrences" going on at the same time.
The key for anyone using XP would be to have the 3.5 gig ram level installed as you mentioned.
thanks

Thanks Dave and Tony. I'll do some more expermentin!!! DAve thank you for the kind words. Didn't really feel on my game at Tulsa but it was still fun. "I really do know how to play Pink Panther!!!" LOL I am very seriously considering Pro tools. Seems eveyone I work with via the internet is using it plus Imacs are getting real cheap. Saw them at Best Buy in Tulsa and could believe they were there. Almost went in debt but I'll wait til I sell a house or two and just "cash one"!!!
Thanks again _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

I am holding off on buying reaper. At this moment I hate PCs with a passion and will be buying a Mac very soon. _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Guys, I have a PC with a dual core Athelon and I only had 1 gig of ram for a long time. I used EZDrummer with that setup without any coughing at all. I was able to activate the multi-channel outputs in EZD and run everything, including a bunch of plugins, live and with no issues.
I moved up to Superior Drummer and 2 gigs of ram. I never print drums as audio anymore...just run real time midi, unless the stuff is going to another studio. All my drums kit pieces are separated out as individual stereo tracks in SpD and Nuendo brings them up as virtual tracks, allowing for insertion of plugins on any channel desired.
My interface does not tax my system because of it's own processing power, but I still don't think EZD eats that much up on resourses. At least my PC has been kind to me! _________________ Robby

Hey Mr Spring....How you doing? I don't think that EZ is eating up my PC. Reaper is if anything. I have fought PC's for so long plus the people that I share with are mainly pro tools kats. Plus for me and my real estate biz Mac has better marketing tools. You do great work by the way. If you guys haven't heard some of Robby's mixes they're excellent! _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Hey Scott. I'm doing good...thanks! By the time I figured out that Mac was as powerfull as it is, I was way off into PC. Too far in to turn around so to speak. Plus the cost of plugins seem more for Mac. But, if I had it to do all over, I would be on a Mac more than likely.
The PC's have been good to me. As for Reaper eating up resourses...I have only seen the demo version so I don't know much about it. It shouldn't be worse than any of the other platforms though. Which ever way you go, I'm sure you will do well.
Thanks for the compliment...and back to you as well. _________________ Robby
