Attention Zane Beck enthusiast: Doing my best not to self promote here but many have asked via Forum, You Tube, and email for more examples of the ZB Tuning. Today, I posted some examples that you can hear from two very early recordings of mine. This is all from a reissued CD called "My Student Years".

"Big Blue Diamonds" - here is recording from over 20 years ago and me attempting to play some of the more E9 sounding things from my setup. I've matured a great deal since then but this does give you something to consider.

"Zoogie Woogie" - just an original thing with just me playing steel and some drums. Of course, I overdubbed a good bit here. I still like the distorted solo part...got lucky on that...man I wish I still had that effect somewhere.

"How High The Moon" - what ZB loved - if I had only paid closer attention I might have gotten closer but still maybe worth checking out...

Not sure why those links are not active. They are accurate though.

On your tuning, what do you use the low strings for?

Earnest,

I use the lower strings for a hand rest! Very Happy

No seriously, I use them to make bass players look at me strangely. Smile

I know from some of your postings Earnest that you are knowledgeable about the instrument. I can honestly say that I use my lower strings a good bit from time to time. Recently I just experienced just tuning my 12th string "B" down to A. This gives me a 5th with strings 12 and 11. Really fun to do some guitar type movements with that...hard to explain..maybe I can show you all sometime. It's something I have never done but it's radically cool.

Now just like most folks I use the bass strings as root notes mostly. If I'm playing something totally by myself they are essential to make something sound really full. I could never play a song on standard E9 without any accompaniment. We could get into some more technical uses and such but my purpose here on the Forum is more about refining the ideas of the base ZB tuning. Then hopefully we can move it more and more toward commercial viability. I can't wait to see about 15-20 really talented fellows come around Nashville here with setups close to mine and turn records inside and out! I welcome them...shucks, I'll even help them!
