Hello Everyone!

I am looking for a theory driven individual to provide me the tuning for an open e 10 string steel guitar. Im looking to use this for some derek trucks ish playing.

This is what he uses on his 6 string guitar. Low to High.....

E-B-E-G#-B-E

Thoughts? Thanks!

I'd use the same six string tuning if I were you. What would you expect the extra four strings to give you that isn't already there? Smile

Agree with Brad: if you want to do Derek Trucks, I'd stay with 6 string open e tuning. Otherwise, look at some of the sacred steel tunings for inspiration.

Tom; I am not familiar with Derek's Steel playing so I am at a loss for exactly what you are wanting to do.

Derek's Dad Chris struck me as a great guy when I met him last August. I wish every kid had a Dad that encouraged them the way Chris encourages and supports Derek (but I digress).

My 10-sting tuning can be seen here: http://www.pixenbar.com/My-Dobro.asp

My 10-String tuning is a C6 tuning but the intervals apply theory-wise regardless of what the open key is. If you want E-tuning then it can be transposed.

Take a look at my tuning chart (on the above link). In essence I have the I, IV, & vi chords right there in the open-tuning. I will let you make you own evaluation of the merits (or lack of merits) for your styles of playing but is should give you something to ponder.

Tom I was reading over my text on this URL: http://www.pixenbar.com/My-Dobro.asp and it was confusing.

I made some edits to the previously unclear language. It now says:
Tab:
"...Retuning the F to E also give me a vii
 chord on strings 9, 8, & 7 which means
I do not have to pull strings to play
 a full vii chord triad."

I hope this correction helps you understand the "theory driven" aspect of this tuning.
