Alino Rey invented and used this technique with his big Pop Band back in the 30's. One of the songs he used it on was "My Buddy". There are old cuts of this on U-Tube if you can find them. Pete Drake brought this technique into Country Music long after Alvino had been mostly forgotten. Google "Alvino Rey and his Talking Steel Guitar" and it will take you right to the U'Tube. He also used a Dummy named
"Stringy" whose mouth moved with the words.

A beguiling sound, nothing technical, its a shame, I think, that Pete Drake is first remembered for his talking guitar.

He was a great studio session man who knew what the people buying the records wanted to hear and the busiest steel played in Nashville, and so the world, for over a decade.

This track "Forever" sold over a million copies, simple or not people loved it and he made a dollar or two.
