A couple of Mondays ago, it was cold and rainy here in Baltimore, so I decided to (like Bishop RP Hall) sit down to my steel guitar and play whatever impressions came to mind (which is a good way to start any practice session).
While playing, I envisioned the raindrops falling from the roof, the heavy gray clouds and rain (as I saw them and also as perhaps these forces of nature might experience themselves). I thought of children's songs and how a child experiences things - a physical feeling of wonder and a magical realist imagination. Then I went back to the rain - rain maybe as two people or two birds - one tapping, two tapping; then everything sort of melded into a reunion with the Beloved - a loved one, a husband or wife, God - however you would define it. If you listen closely, maybe you will hear these different parts. At any rate, I hope you enjoy my rain.

For those of you in the US, have a safe holiday weekend.

Great job Susan, very creative work on that song and very good harmonics. Thanks for sharing. _________________ Marlen SD 10 3 and 5,Fender 5 String Banjo, Flinthill 5 string banjo,Johnson Resonator Guitar, Ibanez AFS75T Country/Jazz Guitar. |

This takes me way back as I can hear the rain drops in the tin buckets we sat out when I was very young, as our roof leaked in several places. Thanks Susan, Jody. |

Just great, Susan!
When I first started playing (around) with pedal steel, I realized there were a lot of cool sounds on it, but I never had the opportunities to develop them - always had to play country sounds in songs (nice but limited). It's so wonderful to hear music like yours, that isn't bound by the dictates of bars, commercial endeavors, etc.
Do keep up the excellent work!
Any idea when your next album will see the light of day? I now have a guitarist buddy (who dabbles in steel) who's interested in your playing. |
