Does anybody know of a good instructional book/course/cd/Dvd for playing western swing on the E9.
There are some jazz courses, but the Western swing has it's own theme.

Hi Larry, Herb Steiner has some great "Swingin On E9" courses that should get you started. Go Here then click on "products for sale" then at the top click on "E9 instruction" and scroll down to the "Swingin On E9" courses.

Hi Larry,
I have Herb Steiner's "Swinging On E9th Vol. 2" GREAT stuff, on the CD you hear the song played and then have a rhythm track to play with as well. I just got another one by Doug Jernigan, "Swingin' E9th", it looks really good too.

Mike Archer has a DVD called a bundle of E9, that covers C6 voicing on the E9 neck. I find it very useful. Larry B.

Herb steiners western swing on E9th is amazing!

After purchasing his 'Essential Bandstand solo's' C.D which consist's of 15 great 'Lead rides' that you could incorporate in the songs listed, is one great study. I'd recommend it for anybody wanting to emphisis 'swing' without the C6 tuning.
Thanks herb.

PS; That session i did with you in 2001 , at 'Pedernales' was for 'Tim holcomb'. We kicked out one smokin C.D.
I was the 'Tele picker' 'Floyd domino' was in on it too, you laid down some smokin steel, that was one great time. Even got to meet Willie nelson and hear him cut a few trax on his polka album. Wow, i'd like some more of that herb!
OK, Off i go to learn some 'Texas' Steel. Smile

I just ordered Swingin' on E9th Vol 2... hearing Faded Love convinced me. It should be a great way to get acquainted with where those "elusive sounds" are on the E9th neck and how to use them for other tunes. Thanks for the tip, guys!

Hi Ray,

My DVD "E9 Voicings on C6" is no longer available. I sold out and did not reorder. However, I'm toying around with some new ideas for a C6 sounding E9 version of "Take These Chains", and a jazzy E9 version of "There Will Never be Another You". So I might have something new later this year.

I'll post if and when it happens. In the meantime, you can email me at emmonsd10@yahoo.com if you wish to chat. There are some copies of my DVD floating around out there, so if you can find one, feel free to copy it with my blessing. Also, I believe Dick Sexton tabbed out what I did on the DVD, so you might try to contact him as well. Thanks,

JC

Amen to Mike Archer's great E9th material. And yes, there is some great C6th voicings to his dvd learning material. I have most everything Mike has produced, and it is a wealth of information from a wonderful guy and great player!
