The new issue of Vintage Guitar has an article by Deke Dickerson about Miss Kandle and the Grand Letar.I recall a very absorbing thread here awhile back about her,and it's a pleasure to see her get a little attention in the larger six-string community. Very Happy

Sadly, Paul Warnik called me to tell me that Letritia Kandle-Lay passed away last night.
Luckily T.C. Furlong managed to get a copy of the magazine to her on Sunday last, so she lived to see it.
The 4 page thread about the rediscovery and restoration of Letritia's famous Grand Letar is here:

Such bittersweet news.
Condolences to her husband and family of this wonderful, talented, and interesting lady of the steel. Kudos to Paul and co. who invested their time and efforts towards bringing her and these fabulous instruments back into the limelight allowing her to go out on top with the recognition she long deserved. How fortunate we've been to have gotten to know her via this forum.

Paul Warnik and I attended Miss Letritia's memorial service this afternoon. She was truly a great lady and the real pioneer of steel guitar as we know it today. She was the visionary behind the console steel guitar (inventing the first known console model) and the advanced tuning of the day that was very similar to the present day E9th tuning - and that was in 1937! She also had the idea for the first electric instrument amplifier that used two speakers. That was more than a decade before Fender debuted theirs.

Below are two photos of the 94 year old genius Paul and I are proud to call our friend. We've both been honored to sit with Miss Lettie and hear stories of days gone by that were absolutely amazing. Please take the time to read the current three page article on Letritia Kandle and the Amazing Grand Letar in this months Vintage Guitar Magazine.

94 well earned and spent years!
Thanx for the pix and service info, and to you all for giving her the attention and joy towards the end she so richly deserved. What a Lady!
