The seller told me I'm incorrect as the Champs weren't made in black. First off, I thought they were and also that the Deluxe name was for the 2 pickup models like a Stringmaster. I'm always learning new things so maybe the seller is correct. What say ye?

Fender definitely made Champ lap steels in black from around 1976 to 1981. I've only ever seen one myself, so I think they're pretty rare.

Deluxe 6 and 8 (from the 1972 Fender catalog):

Champ and Studio Deluxe:

Regardless of whether this is a Champ or Deluxe 6 (I believe it's a Champ), it's in excellent condition.

It's a Champ.

Yes, it's a Champ with original black finish. Black was an option in the late 1970s, as Brad said. I've seen a couple of black Stringmasters too, and they look awesome!
