"QUOTE ERIC WEST"
Alright. I don't have the numbers of the people to check with but two things..

One was that Bud CHARleton is said to have had a cocobola (sp) SB at one time. It was said that when he tried to buy it back the price was too high. I seem to recollect that it was a D10 though..

Two was that "CHAR" might be indicative of a similar owner because it is said that he had a "double strung" SHoBud, though I wasn't clear at the number of strings. Word was that it didn't suit him, and that he just tried it..

I'm sure somebody more "in the know" can provide more info.

Thanks Bob.

Great find either way.

I would like to know if anyone knows if this could possibly be a guitar that once belonged to Buddy Charleton. I recently bought it from a guy in Virginia. When I took the guitar apart to clean it I noticed "CHAR" scribed into the back side of both the key head and changer mounting castings. The castings are anodized in a black or dark color. Does anyone know if this could possibly be correct?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob...You might try e-mailing the photo to Billy Cooper's shop and request that Wanda ask Buddy about the guitar, he is an instructor at the shop.

I asked Buddy about a single neck SB I saw a picture of him playing once and he said it was the 16 string that he played on a few cuts with Earnest. I didn't think to ask him if it was actually his or whether Shot had loaned it to him to try out. I believe he worked at Sho-Bud for a while when he first got to Nashville so the "char" could mean he was the builder?

If I'm not mistaken, after Buddy Emmons left the ShoBud Company, Buddy Charlton came in and was the Bud portion of ShoBud.
