Shortly I'll have two steels set up at home. I was thinking of purchasing a low budget volume pedal for the second one, for practice- any suggestions? Something from Guitar Center perhaps? Or... should I wait, save up and buy a premium pedal? As always, your thoughts are appreciated. |

Allan,
I would suggest a good volume pedal be purchased. You will be in danger of comprimising Your playing by incorporating "cheap" equipment.
Perhaps You will get a good deal on the "for sale" in this forum or perhaps on E Bay.
What $$ do You consider to be cheap?
Best regards

Yes, find a used Goodrich or a Sho-Bud. I recently bought a Bud pedal for 80 bucks. _________________ Olli Haavisto

Ernie ball jr has great long lasting pots in them, it is a bit smaller, i ran one for 3 years without changing pots, about $80.00. I beleive the angle is more set up for guitar however, i used it for steel guitar too! I also ran the 'regular' size one for about 6 years. I have not had any luck with the 'Goodrich' 'pots, seems like you got to chase around to get good pots these days, get one from 'Tom bradshaw' seems a hastle you got to keep asking around though.
If you are playing at home , it will last longer, as you wont have all the dust and tempature/smoke etc.
Those mini pots are great, probably last 10 years at home, and they are replaceable. _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

If you don't have a Hilton buy one and keep the cheap pedal you have. If you have a Hilton buy a used Goodrich as a backup.
Don't buy a pedal like you see in a guitar players board. They don't operate like Goodrich or Hilton. Can't explain why ! Maybe one of our electronics guys will explain. _________________ Bill |

A 6 string guitar volume pedal has a 250k pot in it.
A pedal steel guitar volume pedal has a 500k pot in it.
I use a Hilton and keep a Goodrich in my pac-a-seat as a backup.
