I want to take a moment and send a big "thank you" to the steel guitar community in Sweden for their extraordinary hospitality this month. I had the good fortune to work in Stockholm for three weeks producing a band for Sony Sweden called Abalone Dots. I wanted to play on a few of the songs during tracking but didn't necessarily want to haul a double-neck all the way across the Atlantic and back. Through the Steel Guitar Forum I contacted Swedish steel guitarist Per Berner. Per lives in Skövde, Sweden, about 200 miles from Stockholm, but he immediately posted a message on my behalf on the Sweden Steel Guitar Forum http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=sv&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsteelgitarr.forum24.se%2F and within hours I had several pedal steels and even a Rickenbacher lap steel offered to me.
I was humbled by the community's willingness to help a stranger visiting from far away. I especially want to thank Mikael Karlström, who let me use his beautiful Carter D10 for an entire week of tracking, along with Johan Lindstrom, who loaned me a Rickenbacher Bakelite lap steel. Mikael's pedal steel was first rate in every way and his steel is featured on several tracks on the album.
I also want to thank Janne Lindgren and Daniel Wigstrand who offered pedal steels in Stockholm.
Thank you everyone in Sweden for extending your steel guitar hospitality to me.

I'm glad we were able to help out, Steve. Judging from Mikael's reports from the studio it will be an album to look forward to! |
