Greetings,
Here's a live take of Pearly Shells using the Dynalap tuned to C13.
Again, this video, like the Hula Blues earlier features my live trio--ukulele/steel/vocals backed by acoustic guitar and bass.
If you want to cut right to the steel guitar playing, bump the timeline at around 1:10.
Hope you enjoy.

I always enjoy the group Josh, it looks nice and sunny there and a lot of fun.

James,
Thanks so much for listening!
It's been fun re-visiting this song after not singing it since the Hana-budda days.
Really brings back memories.

Thanks, Doug.
One thing about the Dynalap, I'm able to try out a new C13 tuning (with the high Bb where the lowest string would be)
works out to (low to high strings):
Bb C E G A C E G
The Bb sounds a half step above the A string--affords some nice Dominant 7th chords, which is one thing I truly miss about C6
Thanks again for watching/listening,

Josh, that is really an interesting tuning. Do you use the same string gauge on the Bb as the A string? |

Delvin,
I actually "inherited" this tuning from the Dynalap's previous owner, fellow forumite Doug Freeman, so i'll have to defer to him for exact guages, if available. (I just PM'd him for any stats, etc.)
From my untrained eye, both 8th string B-flat and 4th string A are identical-- unwound, maybe a 20 or 22 gauge.

Josh,
Nice seeing the Dynalap being put to such good use! The middle six strings are the Scotty's C6 set (.036 .030 .024 .022 .018 .015), and most likely I used .012 for the high G and .020 for the Bb (because those are gauges I'd typically have around). I'll look and see if I have anything written down and if it's to the contrary I'll let you know.
Cheers,
Doug |

Just checked my notes and it turns out the Bb is a .022. |

Doug,
Thanks so much for your info here, I'm sure many of the readers of this post are going to try your C13 tuning out now!
I understand that the great Junior Brown uses a C13 tuning, but have not been able to ascertain whether it's like this one, or if his 8th string is a retuned bass note.
The other posts on this esteemed forum seem to indicate the latter, would love to clear this up just for my own edification!
