I recently purchased this 1957 Gibson GA-6, and I quickly realized that it's too much amp for me. Those are some loud 14 watts! This will be someone's perfect recording amp, nearly identical to a 5E3 tweed Deluxe but at less than half the price.
There isn't much headroom, but the overdriven tone is superb. I thought about modding it to run through an attenuator, but I can't bear to mess with it. There are a few tiny holes in the front where someone had tacked letters into it, but these are difficult to notice even up close. Otherwise, it's as clean as the pics show it; even the control panel is nearly mint. The speaker surround has a very small hole, which has been repaired and does not affect the sound. Other than the filter caps and 3-prong cord, the amp is completely original. Original RCA tubes, original Jensen P12R with original cone, original knobs, original handle, logo, grill cloth... you get the idea.
I will record clips if you want, but it really sounds just like any of the myriad 5E3 demos on Youtube. This is the 2x12AX7 version of the GA-6, not the earlier circuit with octal preamp tubes.
$950 shipped in the continental US. I can definitely work something out for money order/echeck and local pickup (Oradell, NJ). The only trade I'd really be interested in is a pre-war tenor banjo (in which case I could even throw in a bit of cash).
Pics are here. If there's something specific you'd like to see, I'll be glad to take additional pics. I also made a video demo.
