I normally play a Nashville 1000 or a Fender steel king and was expecting that the Nashville 112 would be shy on volume, or break up when I tried to push it..
A little about the band, LOUD!
Every drum mic'd, as well as every instrument.
Full drum kit, Big bass rig, keyboard, fiddle, lead player... its a big loud band.

I couldnt believe how well the N112 did!

Master on 6, channel on 4 - that little amp was HONKIN!!!
I like the sound of it better than I like the N1000.. at least thats what my ears are tellin me.

The N112 was mic'd for front of house, but regarding stage volume? It was PLENTY loud.. and I am guessing that I had prolly 30% more clean volume should I have needed it.

I use a N112 as well...more than enough, since we mic everything thru the mains...As for stage volume, it works great! I even had our lead player come tell me my stage volume was too loud! Mad I reached back, turned he knobs on the main, and turned it right back to the same setting I had...then on break I asked him, "how was that?"..then he said "it was better". Laughing

While I was playing out I was contacted for a job with a band I'd never heard before. I arrived at the tonk and unloaded my NV112. One of the players(band leader) said, "If that's your amp you better have two them." I asked why and he said we 'kinda' git after it'. I put my amp back in the van and told him, "Then you better find someone else," and drove back home. You can play loud if you want to but ole phred won't be on the bandstand.

I use 1 of my NV-112's on 90% of my gigs and if I need more I just use both of them!
If you are going to be using a NV-112 on your gig's, just go to www.knobguard.com and see the only thing you need to add to them - IMHO.

Jim I had two of them also but seldom used both. Especially if running thru the board. I guess I cheated a little. I had some scrap aluminum here and I made my own guards, but it's a heck of a good idea.

I have an NV112 too, but still find that I can't compare it to the big lows of my Fender Steel King. It is a good amp though, and has its own unique sound, but different from the FSK. I will probably always keep both of these amps for their own particular characteristics.

Agree, great amp. I like it lots. Use it when I need it.

My question is - if Ken and others can come up with modifications that make it better - why is it that Peavey just doesn't make them that way in the first place?

Another puzzle - many I know (and me) usually reach for the mid shift and set it around 800hz and then grab the cut knob and tweak it down - I rarely boost any mids - ever. Why not have the center freq at 800?
Minor issue, but still - it baffles me. I can hang with the way it is - but makes me wonder.

I've used my NV112 on several gigs, and it performs quite well, though with some bands it NEEDS to be mic'd. I don't think the tone is quite as full as my NV400. That one gets VERY loud, but at moderate volumes, it just plain sounds better than the NV112. More bottom, simply fuller.
Fred:
I also have an Evans SE200, and that REALLY sounds nice, though I'm still contemplating swapping out the speaker to gain more volume. When I told Scot at Evans my considering this - as one band gets too loud and the Evans actually starts to break up - he did suggest I tell that band they either lower the volume or I won't play with them. No and no.
Mic'ing all the amps just gives the sound man a way to balance the band's volume, so it isn't a bad idea to do that in larger rooms. I've even had my NV400 mic'd; it's got the power and in some respects rivals the Evans, but it does have it over the NV112 (except in weight!)

I've used my NV112 exclusively since getting it in 2006. There hasn't been anything I've done that required my Nashville 1000's power. There is a difference between the 12" speaker in the 112 and the 15" speaker in the 1000 but not enough to have to carry around 20 extra pounds.

As far as the op-amps, the 112 uses the identical preamp as the 1000, it was an existing design so no engineering expense was involved designing a new preamp during the development of the 112. Although Mike Brown will probbly disagree, it appears the 112 was built to a price as it was originally intended to be a small "practice amp" rather than the workhorse amp it turned out to be. There are many "after market" parts around - in cars, home products, electronics. The current OPA2134 OP Amp use has been a success but not everyone feels the need to "modify" - just as there are thousands of stock Fender Twin Reverb amps around that work and sound very good, and then there are those that must or at least think they must "redesign" and modify them.

Don't listen to your ears. Read the specs instead Rolling Eyes

Seriously, if it's too loud for the 112 i don't wanna be on that stage.
