Many times we each may have some questions and are "stumped'" at the moment, I can easily speak for myself in this regard...
I just started using Sonar 8 PRO and although I am fairly experienced with Sonar 7, at times something arises which needs a solution which I cannot really find, I admit it.
BUT...
A simple "Google search" on the topic at hand more often than not yields a solution within minutes.
There are some amazing talented people out there that are sharing information on forums all over the place with regard to recording and configurations.
The other morning , and this is really amazing, the other morning the "effects bin" was not showing up on my Sonar 8 Track view, it was absent, gone, lost... don't know why...
I spent all sorts of time trying to revive it, find it, understand what happened to it...bummer....
I finally just did a simple search on "effects bin missing Sonar 8 " and low and behold I was pointed to a very recent forum response which stated..
"Shut down Cakewalk, then hold down the SHIFT key while loading Sonar 8 from the Start menu"..
huh 
Well, in about 30 seconds I was up and running and all was well, In a million years I would not have known to do that. The topic stated that this had something to do with pulling in all the registries associated with Sonar 8. A one time deal. It appears the "initial load" was not complete or missed an operation even though it completed the installation.
Now it is possible that some forum members here would know this and be able to post a response, but not at 5 am and not in less than a minute !
Don't forget Google searches on the recording questions, you may get lucky, real lucky real fast..
