Thanks for the kind words guys. You all helped to make it great!

Mike you are such an amazing player. It's always a thrill to have you on the show. And even better to call you a friend. And Don, you and the Fort Huntsburg band along with Glen Lanning did a great show to start the Celebration off on Friday night.Plus your contribution to the show as a vender was well recieved. Hope you sold some steel guitars and accessories over the weekend. Seemed like there were allot of folks gathered around your booth checking out your BSG steel guitars . And Jake,it's always a pleasure to have your support. After all it's "our"show and you help to make it great. Hope Claudia is doing better. Missed her this year !

Sorry but that's about all for now. Just got done teaching. Been a long day of unloading the trucks and getting the store back in order. I just want to say to all those who were part of the show both staff and artists, THANKS ! It is truly humbling to have so many contribute so much to make the show a success.

And a success it was! The new venue was awesome. What a beautiful place and area. The restraunt was great, there staff was wonderful and the room sounded better than ever. The artists were oustanding. From the local players all the way through the "marquis" players. The staff band was really on there game and the extra help we got was wonderful. Even things that could have been stumbling stones turned out to be an amazing plus .
Too many to mention tonight ,but maybe as time goes on I can fill you in on some.

Gotta go. More posts tomorrow. --Rick--

Thanks to Rick and his whole staff. I as a "novice" to playing on the "main stage" was treated the same as the other experienced players. The staff set me up and then removed my complete setup from the stage without me touching my setup. What a great crew.
I think this was the best show that Rick has had. And the accommodations were outstanding.
The band was great. Whatever was asked of them, they came through.
Thanks again to Rick for inviting me - a real experience!

Sounds like it was a great show as always. I wish I could have been there, since I was really hoping to see all the great players, but a motorcycle accident last thursday put the halt to me doing much of anything. I know I would have had a great time...Well, there is always another one around the corner somewhere. Just really hated to miss this one.

Hi Glen,

You sounded great! Thanks for the kind words regarding the staff and band. I am truly blest to have so many wonderful friends who are so willing to give there time and effort. Also glad you liked the Lodge. I thought it was wonderful as well .

Hi Dan,

Glad you finally got to meet Herby Wallace. Even happier that he was able to give you the good news about your new Mullen guitar being done in 3 weeks. No wonder you were smiling so much !

Hey Mike,

So sorry to hear of your accident! Glad it wasn't more serious. Missed you at the show for sure. Hope to see you at the next one.

Well, I just returned and I must say that Rick Troyer has done it again. Rick is one of my very favorite people in the steel guitar community and this show is without one of the finest I have ever done and I have been doing steel guitar shows for over 32 years full time. The show was first class in every way. As my good friend, Glen Lanning, said the crew was the best I have ever seen as far as taking special care of each player with loading, unloading, setup and so on. Of course, I have been lucky to have done everyone of Rick's shows since they started in 1996 and everyone has been just like this. Next the lineup of players and the backup band was excellent, and believe me, I never say that unless I really mean it. Now, the Atwood Lake Resort is one of the finest venues I have ever had the pleasure of staying and doing a show. It was first class plus. Also, since I claim to be an expert in the DINING Department, I must say that the restaurant was one of the best I have had the pleasure of eating at in a long time. They had great buffets each day and the price was reasonable and very quality food. I really hated to see the show end and have to head back home, but all good things must have an ending, I guess.

Thanks for the kind words Herby. It's always an honor to have you on the show and a personal bragging point for me to say you've been on every one since '96. I believe you and Mike Meese are the only two who have that distinction.I must say I think your playing is improving everytime I hear you.Not to say that it hasn't always been good but I know from our conversations how the stroke has taken some of the skill level. I particularly liked "Home Again In Indiana". A glimpse of the speed you had before the stroke. Never having reached the level of play you have I can't imagine what it was like to suddenly have it partialy taken away. Keep pickin'! We are all hoping for the day when your hands and feet are restored to what you once had.For those of you who didn't make the show and haven't heard Herby in awhile pick up his CD "Coming Back". Or go see him live at a steel show near you . He is indeed coming back . --Rick--

I just wanted to thank everyone for the prayers for my mother-in-law. I have talked to a couple people from the show who told me Rick announced the situation and that lot of people were praying. For those who didn't know I left the show as it began Friday when I got a call that my mother-in-law was going in for emergency surgery for a perforated bowel. Her chances of surviving the surgery and recovering were slim. Thanks to the prayers of the saints she is doing very well and looks like will recover. This is why I love the shows and the jams. Not just friends but a community.

Hi Alan,

Indeed there were prayers offered up on your behalf. Sorry you had to miss the show but we certainly know and understand your place was home with Bev and family. Our prayers are still for your Mother-in-Law to continue to heal and recover from the surgery. You said it right when you refered to all the friends as a "community" !

When Alan left of course there was a hole in the staff band. Thanks to "Uncle"Dick Arth stepping up and Billy Phelps surprising us on steel and bass as well as Roger Hicks coming along with Russ it all worked out fine. God must be in favor of steel guitar. You know the Psalms talk about instruments of 10 strings. Hmmmm, Makes you wonder.Well to say the least I'm so very thankful to all the people who filled in on the bass . Thanks guys ! Love ya !

Speaking of the staff band,Thank you Mr. Jerry Sexton. What a great job he did and what stamina !Chaz, the other guitarist was a no show(hope he's alright)and that left Jerry doing it all. He did get a small break when Russ Hicks played for Mike Sigler's sets and another when we had a surprise
visit from Chuck Spires but other than that he did it all . Thanks JAS !!

Since I mentioned Russ and Chuck I may as well give you the scoop on them . If you didn't know, Russ is an excellent guitarist. Listen to any of his albums or see him play at a steel show and you'll know what I mean. He can cut heads with the best .
And what a thrill it was to See Chuck Spires there.Chuck is an awesome guitar player with chords for every note. He has played on most of the Hummingbird shows along with his son David who is on the road now with Joe Dee Massina and his younger son Stephen on drums.Due to health issues he had to
decline the 2008 show. You can imagine my excitement when I saw him walk into the lobby. Chuck did a set with Billy Phelps and most of Herby's but sadly his health would not let him play more. It was so good to hear him again if even for just a while. I would also like to extend a big thanks to Mick and Patty Sigler for helping to make sure Chuck got home safely.

Enough for now. More to come --Rick--

Dan,

But it's on a double frame. I guess it still only has 10 strings. I wonder how the 12 string/Universal guitar fits in. Maybe in the NIV it's 12 ... Just kidding. No hate mail please! --Rick--

Actually if you look at biblical numurology 12 is considered the perfect number, 12 apostles,12 Patriarchs, 12 Sons of Israel, etc. Seven is 4+3 while 12 is 4x3.

Does that mean if I got a 12 string I'd be a perfect player? Laughing No wonder you can play so much better than me, Rick!

Why didn't you tell me that you were short a lead guitar player. After all, I did learn all thirteen chords in the country music scale ( ya know "13 chords", that extra chord ya played and then realized ya messed up and ya just grinned and called it yore new jazz lick ). Huh!
It this thang on? Hello? Test - one - two! ( LOL )
For the record, This is not Billy Phelps, it's his evil twin brother, Skippy. Yeah, that's the lie I'm stickin' too.
Did they believe that one?
Seriously Rick, I would have been happy to cover you on guitar too.
I was so happy to have Chuck sit in on my set. That man plays so awesome...

I just had to supply my two cents worth. What an awesome show. The Venue was outstanding. The lineup was great. I loved the scenic country side views during the breaks, and Herby was right about the food. The buffets were crazy good! I had to start running again to shed my weekend weight.

Kayton Roberts was a real treat. He certainly is an energetic performer, and can make that guitar talk!

This was the first year my wife came with me. She is not used to that much country music packed into a few days. She really enjoyed it though. She really enjoyed Mike Meese. She says she likes that he smiles all the time he is playing. If I could play like Mike, I would smile all the time too.

The only thing I thought was missing was my favorite Steel Picker, but he was running the show. I'll have to catch him next year.

GREAT JOB Rick! I look forward to the next one.

Dog gone it Skippy, why didn't you tell me you knowed all 13 kountry keys? I was thinkin' you only knowed a couple o' dem rascals. Seriously Billy,Thank you SO much for all the help. And all kidding aside I thought you'd played GREAT! It had been too long since I last heard you.

For those of you who don't know Billy or "Skippy" he is one of the good guys. I'll never forget the 2000 show when everything that could go wrong did. Not to worry, Billy helped with everything from unloading the truck to playing in the staff band . What a guy! Love ya man !

Thanks Barry for the kind words and Annette for posting the pictures. They look great. Hopefully I'll have a link to photo bucket tomorrow for more pics of the show.

Hey Joe,Thanks for the 2 cents. Do I owe you any change? Always glad to see you and really glad your wife was able to make it as well.I agree completely with you on the show, venue, food and artists. Sorry it had to end. --Rick--
