I just ordered a Nashville 112 from Bobbe Seymour (great price, thanks Bobbe!) and am wondering if any of you play regular guitar through one? How's it sound? At most of my gigs I play mostly pedal steel but some guitar, and I don't want to have to haul a guitar amp as well.
Also, I assume everybody uses the High Gain input for pedal steel, right? I have a George L E-66 humbucker on my Williams running through a Hilton VP. (The Hilton should make the VP send and receive insert points unnecessary, right? I have read that those are just for pot volume pedals.) And the output of the E-66 is not too much for the High Gain input, right? _________________ I give music lessons on several different instruments in Cambridge, NY (between Bennington, VT and Albany, NY). But my true love is pedal steel. I've been obsessed with steel since 1972; don't know anything I'd rather talk about... www.barryhyman.com |

Hi Barry, I have a Nashville 112, and it is a fine amp for lead guitar. The only problem for me is the EQ is different for the two instruments. If I'm playing anything important, I'll carry a Vegas 400, as it has two channels with different EQ options. Larry _________________ U12 Williams keyless 400

I use the 112 for my guitar gigs (it is my only amp) but I play jazz guitar and "jazz-style" country so I want a clean sound.
You could dirty it up with a stomp box, I guess.
It's a great litte amp, adequate for any gig I ply.

Chris, I agree with you. I should have stated that I play a jazz style, also, and just need a different EQ fot the two guitars

Barry, I have 10-1's in my D10 Willy and play both my Gretsch 6120 and steel through my 112 with no problem. I think "tone" should be left up to you. I don't use the patch, I go right into the "hi" input.

Oddly enough, I liked my NV112 better with Tele than with steel - otherwise I probably would have kept it. I used to run it in stereo under my BF Deluxe for bottom end and clean tones. It was a great combination. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

i use my peavey nashville for both lead guitar and pedal steel guitar, but i use two sessionmaster pre amps for not only boosting the signal from the amp, but to achieve two distinct eq's as required, i do not use the onboard reverb, as i do not like it, i use a TC electronics for my reverbs and delays on lead guitar, and a Boss fvr1 fender reverb int my steel, works well for me
should have added, i replaced the stock speaker with a EVM12L, much greater clarity, tone and headroom, despite being an 8 ohm speaker |

I have an NV 1000, and recall that when both inputs are used, they are both low gain.
This quote right from the NV1000 User Manual:
If both inputs are used simultaneously, the output levels
are the same (Both are low gain.).
It sounds the same for guitar and PSG regardless of which input is used, as long as both inputs are used. Not sure, but I assume the NV112 has the same input scheme.

yes you are quite right Clete, when both inputs are used they are both low gain, but with my system of using pre amps it boosts the gain right up there, as well as giving me two independant channels, |

The 112 owner's manual says most steels have a hot, high impedance pickup and should be plugged into the low gain input.
My experience is that when I plug into the high gain input (by mistake) my sound gets very harsh. This with PSG's that have George L pickups.
Also, I'm single input only. But see what works best for you, that's what counts. |

I'm assuming you are planning on using both inputs simultaneously.
Im using a NV1000. I dont have a 112 yet, but I run my steel (also with an E66) to a Hilton into either input of the Peavey, and my 6 string or mandolin into the other. I run all my pedals thru the Post EQ loop. You could use the Pre loop for the VP if you wanted to, but I find it unnecessary. I suppose there are some other ways that include a bypass tuner as well that may utilise the pre loop. You could also run pedals after the VP if you wanted to, and separate pedals for guitar as well. its all a matter of preference really.
