Honestly I never really liked them, allthough their former bands the Small Faces and the Herd were my taste. I saw them once at a festival were there were two stages fronting each other with about 250 meters between them where the audience sat on the ground. On the other stage Ginger Baker's Air force enterd the stage to prepare for their set, and while Humble Pie was still playing, all the people turned in the other direction towards the Airforce. I thought that was a bit unfair. Steve Marriot got really upset.

I saw them w/Peter, deffinitely one of the very best on stage once they really hit their stride with Rock On. Maybe that weird incident was the turning point towards their harder sounds of '70/'71. The Clem Clemson years were great as well. They simply don't make 'em like Marriott and the Pie anymore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZMmV6xXYFw

Sad that Peter Frampton got relegated to teen pop icon, he was (and is) a great guitar player and very inventive writer. Marriott pretty much took him on from Wyman, as an apprentice of sorts. I always thought this band was better than the studio material they put out. They'd have benefitted from one of the prototypical manager/dictator types that could have directed them to better material.

The second Humble Pie LP is just about perfect.

I can't find fault with their choice of material, at least once they decided to lean more towards the hard stuff, in fact it's one of the foremost componants that made them the legends they deserve to be.
They suffered greatly from really bad ripoff and delinquent management, barely taking home a % of the big bux they were making and not getting the support needed to continue strong, which is what dragged them down until they threw in the towel.
