There are many types of instruments called "Clinesmith".

Here's mine:

It looks a lot different from BobH's or BillM's, or KurtK's...

A lap steel from 6 to 8 strings would be ideal, but I would also consider a double neck if one were available. You never know when someone may want to sell. Maybe a guy wants to fine tune his specification a little and order a new one. It never hurts to ask.
