My steel mentor, Bob Wingrove, went to see Vince Gill in Niagara Falls last week and was raving about the steel player, Russ Pahl.
Bob doesn't go online, but was wondering if anyone (or Russ himself) could post the set-up for Russ's Eb9 2x4 set up. _________________ Sho Bud Super Pro D10 |

I believe it is standard emmons setup but 1/2 step flat with one knee raising the fourth a whole tone. |

Russ did some work for Miranda Lambert on "Love Letters" and "Fell in Love with Jack Daniels".The steel solos on both songs fall right into place on an Emmons setup-and they're more fun to play than one may legally have. |

I also believe he uses heavier gauge strings than normal, made possible by tuning a half step lower than most of us. |

I agree...Russ' playing on that album is great and incredibly tasteful. _________________ www.pedalsteel.ca |

Russ was supposed to do a seminar covering the equipment and technique he uses for some of his more unusual sounds. His ' From Square One ' track on the Show Pro CD got a lot of attention with it's wild, distorted sounds reminiscent of Jeff Beck. Just wondering if the seminar ever happened and how it turned out. |
