Today I got to see and hear Western Swing Steel Guitar Hall of Fame member Autry Rutledge. He was playing with a band at the annual Collinsville Day at Collinsville,MS.I almost didn't go because it was raining and the event was outside. My conscience told me to go and I'm sure glad that I did.The music was moved inside and what a show!He played Western Swing, classic country and pop standards. He really had that Zum S12 talking!
I just went to listen, but a lady in the crowd I knew convinced them to let me sing a couple. What a thrill to sing with musicians of that calibre!
A great time almost missed.Listen to your conscience!!!

Autry was the first really good guitar player I ever saw play in person. He worked at the Guitar House in Tulsa for a while, I don't think he even played steel at that time, which would have been in the late '60s or early '70s. I saw him play a Guitorgan once with a rhythm machine and bass pedals, and he didn't need nothing else. He was really good back then, so he must be fantastic by now. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |
