Hi every one..Ive given you a bit of piece over the last few week's while making a lap that actualy now sounds like on...
with a big help from the S.G.B
I am always looking ahead..while I am practice on writen tabs with cd's /blocking and everything else..
My big prablem is ( i hope i can explain this ok..
working out/picking notes to something I know..I find I am staying on one string..

Before you shout me down..on a keyboard / piano one is going in a stright line with sharp's between I it is easy to see a scale..lets say we start at middle c then the next scale is c..

So picking out notes if it dosent fit between say c and b then up to next scale..
so it can all be worked out in a stright line..

I Purchased ebay a wall chart of all the notes and I can work them out now starting with the open string with hole hole half..
That works on one string but that's no good but carnt seem to get any where as in knowing say the next not is a G but what G..

If I havent totaly confused the whole meaning of music with the above and anyone can understand where Im comming from I would be grateful for some help..

An other example is I have a book/tab for red river valley and follow the tab...but sometimes without thinking about it (because i know the song play the note on the same string instead of what is on the sheet BUT it sounds ok....

Thank Regards Paul

Here is a note chart that I made showing the staff and C6th tuning. This may help you...

Thank You Dom for taking the time to reply and the link to chart's Im not sure I understand them all apart from the note finder..

I am certainly missing an important link somewhere and pulling my hair out at the same time, Also prob not explaining it proply either..

If I could give you an example of what I mean please.

say i wanted to play note's as follows...
B C G E F E looking at the notes i could play g 4fret
g 3fret g 12fret g 9fret g 10fret g 9fret but i know that wouldent be right as you dont just play on one string.... the chords for that song are C F C7 so I think you would say it was in C scale but from there im lost..
If I carnt get the penny to drop then I guess Ill have to stick with playing ready written tabs
Thank you for your help it is apprecated..
Paul

Being an uneducated guitar picker I try to find as many of the notes in the (straight bar) position that corresponds to the chord. (this way it won't hurt too much if a string rings by accident)
For your example: I'd start by sliding from B into 12th position on the low C string, skip a string and hit G. It would be possible to start on 3fret on the A string, but strumming there would give a minor chord (but you'd be close to 5th position F chord then)

A good approach? I don't know.
