Can someone tell me what modification (if any) is needed to install a Lace Alumitone p/u in a Sho-Bud Pro II. It looks like I'd likely need a custom plate???
Also... any opinions from someone who's tried these compared to original Sho-Bud p/u's, George L's (E66,10-1), BL-705...
Thanks

Charlie, I bought an Alumitone that I never installed and have since sold. I intended to put it in my Pro 1. IT looked to me, once i had the strings off, that all it needed to install were two new screw holes (on the side of the Bud pickup with only one screw).

I've been wondering if the opening is wide enough to accept the Alumitone. The opening on my Pro I is 1-3/8" wide. I thought I read somewhere that the Alumitone pickup was 1-1/2" wide.

Like some other pickups, the top plate, or top dimension in this case, is wider than the base. The one I have is 1.5 at the very top, first 1/8". The legs are little less than 3/4" tall from there down and are 1.25 wide. The mounting holes are about 1.2 apart.

With the mounting screws, you would need app. 1 3/8" clearance down inside the mounting cavity. The topmost 1.5 width wouldn't interfere as it rises above the pick-up cut out.

Don't hold me to it, but it appears it would fit in a 1 3/8" pickup slot, as long as the cavity is not more than 11/16" or so deep. Maybe someone who's done it will look in on this thread.

[The steel guitar 10 st. neck takes the 4" unit].

I have done it on a Sho~bud Professional Rack & Barrel guitar.
The narrow legs of the pick up dropped right into the hole.
All I needed was to get 4 thin extra long screws.
I had to make 4 new holes in the body.
I used stiff sponge rubber under the legs to function as adjustment springs.
