I'm have tuning problems with the A and B pedals for the 5th and 6th strings on my E9. I also lower both a whole tone and I'm wondering if the return springs are getting weak and causing the problem ? I use GHS Boomers and this just started a couple months ago. Thanks for any help.

Tony, that's an easy test. After lowering the above mentioned strings. Release the knee lever or pedal very slowly. Then use the thumb of your left hand to reach under the guitar to the fingers. If they have not returned firm against the stop plate. You need to tighten the lower return springs a tad. Usually one round will do the job.

Just a note. If you're using lower return compensators on those strings? And if they are adjusted as should be? The finger will not rest firm against the stop plate. So back those off before adjusting your return springs. Hope this helps.

Tony ,
You got very good advice From Bobby !

Here is something else that you should also check out ! As strange as it may seem , and if your guitar sets up a lot without packing and unpacking , the pull rods slots that lock on to your floor pedals will sometimes rust a little in the slot ! That slot and portion on the pedal that the rod locks on to, should be inspected cleaned of any rust and a drop or two of oil put in the locking end of the pull rod as well as on the portion of the pedal the the rod hooks to .

A friend of mine who could not understand or find the solution to a string / s that would not return fully ! That little bit of rust was causing the pedal to hang up just a tad by either being very slow in returning and / or not fully returning causing the guitar to be out of the basic tuning . I suggested this little tip to him and BANG that was the cause. Not to say you are having that problem in this case but that rod slot inspection should be a part of your maintaince program ,regardless!
