You can save yourself a lot of trouble, and just get a new one (Goodrich) from Steel Guitar Nashville, Dave.
They pretty much come standard equipped with bad pots; meaning, brand new, right out of the box.
I went through three type J replacements in less than a year before getting some newer Dunlop pots, from Tom Bradshaw.
