No.
It works fine with onboard sound.
You could have a setting wrong in Audacity or you could have something going wrong outside of Audacity. |

No. The same thing happens on my new computer. The Audacity input level control does not function with some integrated sound cards. There's a way to work around it. You can still use Audacity, but it's a bit more hassle.
You need to set the recording volume level in the Control Panel.
On my computer it's... Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Audio/Sound Recording/Volume, set the recording control volume.
You'll probably need to reset the level there every time you record a different instrument, a mic, make any changes, etc. Set the level, experiment, record something, reset the level, etc.
Also... you will need to MUTE the Stereo Mix slider in the Recording Control panel when you overdub. If you don't, Audacity will record any sounds coming through the computer... like the other tracks you are monitoring. For example, if you have a basic rhythm track recorded and you want to play steel over it, Audacity will re-record the basic track onto your new steel track unless you Mute the Stereo Mix in the Audio Properties.
I've been recording a lot with this setup in the past year and I'm used to it now... setting levels in the Audio Properties, testing the levels, resetting, Muting, un-muting to import a BIAB wav file, etc. It takes some tinkering, but it does work. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Exactly what Integrated Audio chip do you have? SigmaTel? IDT (new name for SigmaTel)?, RealTek?
What is set as the default recording device in the Control Panel? Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound panel and click on the Recording Tab.
Do you have a "System Mixer" option in the Recording Tab? If you do, select that and any input (or streaming audio from the Internet) should be able to be recorded as long as you select the System Mixer in Audacity. |

VA Tech is not a known sound type. The more common ones are what I listed.
What PC do you have? (Vendor and Model). |
