always wondered about the horseshoe pickup design that was common in the 30's/ early 40's - i got to play one finally and it was really fantastic - so i am wondering why they were abandoned after the 40's. i had an old homemade steel years ago that had a HANDMADE horseshoe type pickup that i gave away as it didnt work, but boy i bet that hunk would have sounded fantastic

are the early 50's fenders considered a hybrid horseshoe design? i've never seen one under the cover.
