Who was the steel guitarist with Trace on the Miss USA telecast from Planet Hollywood?
It would have been nice to have heard him play.
The drummer insisted on playing lead.

I don't know who the steel player was Rick, and I know how much many steelers like to knock drummers, fiddlers, and lead guitarists... Razz ... but I really think the blame for "drummer playing lead" should be placed on the sound engineer. Come to think of it, we like to blame them a lot too... but they usually fairly deserve it... lol I know there are some really good ones, to be fair. But they are the last in the chain and responsible for the mix so... can't really blame the band. I think too many sound guys nowdays come from the DJ school, and think that all you really need to hear is bass and drums.

I missed it. Did he do HonkyTonk Badonkadonk?

Jim, isn't there a difference between "drummer playing lead," and "drummer playing too loud?" Confused

Yes there is. Saying to blame anyone else for someone "playing lead" was a poor choice of words on my part. But the context of the previous sentence, "It would have been nice to have heard him play." seems to indicate that Rick is saying that the volume, and not what or how he was playing, was the main issue. On the other hand, "drummer playing lead" indicates the playing technique. So I guess it could be taken both ways. I'm editing this a million times trying to make sure my wording is clearer, hope this is satisfactory. Oh Well

Tracy was on Celebrity Apprentice last year. He & band preformed on that show, so it's great Donald had he and his band on the show last night. YAY!

Both ways, correct. Neutral

Trace sang his new single. This Ain't no Love Song.
The band played instrumentally as the contestants paraded in their evening gowns. I thought the song was very nice and it was great that the band got to play quite a bit too. Wayne sounded fine as did the guitar player. It was great to see a country act and a steel guitar on that show. I didn't notice anything wrong with the instrument mix.

It would have been nice to have heard the lyrics to Trace's new single, also.
The mix was definitely "out of joint" (improper __ no matter what is commonly accepted).

For that particular setting, the drum set should not have even been miked.
The other mikes would have sufficed, no matter how directional.
If the drummer had been using only a snare with brushes is the only case I can accept for a mike on drums on a telecast.
But, that's just my opinion.

The sound engineer could have put the drums more to the background.
Bass can be loud __ drums can be highly offensive.

I could hear Trace's vocals just fine. Maybe there are some differences in sound quality from various affiliates.

In fact, I could hear him well enough that I thought he was a bit "pitchy" which would be the first time I ever heard that from Trace. Perhaps he was having some monitor problems, I don't know.

I admit that I wasn't watching intently, it was just on while I was working on some gear, but I didn't see those problems you mention here in this locality.
