From time to time, some Forumites will drop the name
of some famous country super star, head-liner, that they have played steel for.

I'd imagine many of you, over time, have had the fun of playing a one night stand, or in a regional touring, pick-up band for one of the Opry greats.

I'd be especially interested in learning if any of you actually played with a celebrity recording artist for one full year or longer, and whether you cut any NAME LABLEs with that artist.

I just tho't it might be interesting.

If there's a signature phrase, I'll play it. Otherwise, all bets are off! I play in the minute, and am generally zoned out on steel. Completely opposite to my 6-string approach. If I had to play the same melodies over and over, I would have become terminally bored, and retired much sooner. I fly,,, by the seat of my pants. Luckily, I had bands, and audiences, that didn't mind!

I'll bite, S.M. Like many here, I've done a ton of one nighters and recorded some with nationally known artists. But as far as "a year or more", I spent quite a few years with John Berry in the 80's, and I'm on his Liberty release "Things Are Not The Same".
Also spent more than a year with Sugarland, and I'm on their first CD "Premium Quality Tunes".
I have to say, neither of them were my favorite employers.
More, including some I've forgotten, in my discography: http://markvanallen.com/discography.html

Hmmmmm. Don't know how my reply to a different thread got posted here! I played with melodic metal guitarist Neil Zaza for a short while. It was interesting playing steel behind him. He liked that I could play string trio parts, with a cool sound.
Been having some strange troubles with the Forum for a few days. Pings to threads I'm on not coming in my email box. And also getting pings that when I click on them, say that there's no such thread on the Forum.
