I'm rotating between this and the bionic canine movie on Animel Planet.
No interest in Shania but I liked seeing Lyle Lovett and Mandy Barnett.

I saw the show with Ray and Willie, and was disappointed in the performance. The first time they showed Willie and Ray, he was used as a backup singer to Lyle Lovett, on a song that they really didn't know. The second time was Ray and Willie, but they were reading the lyrics from the cue card, no memory involved in the performance.
Granted, it was a live show, and they probably also went through rehearsals, but it seemed that all of the performers had to use cue cards, or teleprompter to sing the songs. Really a bad show in that respect.
I would have preferred to have Willie celebrate his birthday with the people who really put him on the map, unfortunately, half of them have passed away, Roger Miller, Jimmy Day, Johnny Paycheck, etc. It would have been nice to have Buddy Emmons there, Johnny Bush, and others from his past who were there from the start.
My own opinion, but it was a waste of good material on some lackluster performances.

They should have called it Willies Rocks Country. A bunch of rockers trying to sing country and not doing a very good job of it. Looks like Willie is helping turn Nashville into Rockville.

Hey Larry they are not going to turn Nashville into rock Music if us steel players all stick together and the ones that don't will be the losers.I will push the steel guitar to the fullest and to the end of my life.

It's called change fellas. There's no future for country music (or any music for that matter) unless it morphs and reaches a new generation.
Let's face it, Ray hasn't had a hit in a couple of decades... and while I'd rather hear him sing than any of the people on show, it was good just to see him on stage, wasn't it? Thanks to Willie for getting him there.

Sam, we have rehearsals for our show with Charlie Daniels that weekend, plus heavy church commitments on Sunday. It doesn't look like I'm going to make it.
I was there in Feb., though, and really enjoyed the jam. That's a great bunch of guys! |
