Of all the bakelites I've seen and worked on, I haven't ever seen one with knobs with white arrows on them, although I haven't seen'em all! I did a '35, and a later 30s, and quite a few late 40s and 50s, and still haven't seen those knobs on one. (??)
I could be wrong (I was once in 1947) but those knobs look like something from some early test equipment.  |

The early Bakelites and frypans had a single octagonal knob. In 1937-1938 all Rickenbacher guitars (spanish and hawaiian) used the black radio knobs with the white arrow on top. Bakelites had them on opposite sides and I have owned at least 10 with this configuration. Rickenbacker then went to the "Flying Saucer" knobs when they moved both knobs to the treble side and started painting the plates white. They came in black, white, red and combinations.
The knobs on ebay are the exact same knobs used on 1937-1938 Bakelites lap steels but as others have stated they are way overpriced. If you want these knobs just search ebay for "Radio knobs" and Bakelite knobs" and look through the pictures. They turn up all the time usually in lots with other stuff but if you contact the seller you can usually get them for a few bucks. Be sure the base is 1 1/8" in diameter as they came in many different sizes and they fit a 1/4" solid shaft with a set screw.
If you have a post war guitar the only way you will find the original style knobs is if someone parts out a bakelite guitar as I have never seen them used on anything else. Same with the black octagonal knobs used on the earlier guitars.

This Bakelite is probably a '37 and has the "arrow" knobs, actually only one knob has the white arrow that being the Volume. the other knob looks identical but doesn't have the white arrow.
