Topic: SD card copying. Need help |

I have about 4 hrs of a lesson on an sd card that I need to edit. I want to take all of the non essential banter out of it. I tried to do this in Audacity but a 3 minute segment took 25 minutes to process. I also want to be able to email these 3-5 minutes segments without it taking forever or exceeding email parameters. I recorded it in wav. I used a Tascam DR 07 digital recorder.
Explain it to me as if I were a four year old. Thanks, Greg

The I/O speed on the SD card is probably too slow for good quality editing, I might suggest moving all of the waves to your hard drive and try editing from there. Also, the larger the bitrate, the better the quality and the larger the wave file.. If you can live with some quality loss, then you can reduce the bitrate... This will reduce file load, processing and editing times...

How do I upload to the hard and what program will I use to edit the file. Quality is not an issue.

| Some newer computers have SD card readers built in, otherwise you can buy one for like 10 or 15 bucks.. It usually connects via usb port... Once it's on your HD you can use any wave editing software to open it and manipulate it. I like goldwave, but others might have a different suggestion... |

My DR 07 will has a usb cable that connects it to the computer and will open and play the files. I want to know the process for saving them to the hard drive an what program to use to edit them.

Does the SD card show up as a drive letter in (if you are using windows) My Computer when you plug in the usb cord? If so, open it up by double clicking, find the file and drag it to your desired location. Once the file copy is complete, open your wave editor of choice, find the file and open..
If not, get a card reader, plug SD card into card reader, plug card reader in, find drive under My Computer and continue as stated above...
If you are not using Windows then I won't be able to help... I am Anti-Mac...

Greg,
Download "Switch Sound File Converter" and convert your wav files to mp3 files. They'll load much faster.
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
mp3 files email much faster also.
Audacity works just fine with mp3. |

Sorry I haven't replied to say thanks. I've actually had to do some work at (work)! Thanks guys. I appreciate. I'm going to copy the files and then try to edit it with my Cubase that I forgot I had. Thanks again, Greg

Anybody want to edit music in the simplest of ways like I needed to (taking a 4 hour block off of an sd card) and making it into segments as long or short as you want and then saving them as mp 3 files; Here's the deal. http://www.nchsoftware.com/
Wave pad audio editor. So easy I can even use it.

Hi, is it possible that your transfer speed (or lack of it) could be related to the speed of your USB port? Is it USB 1.0 or 2.0? It makes all the difference in the world speedwise. What you relate seems to me like a slow USB port.
