I had the great pleasure to hear Paul play with the Time Jumpers featuring Vince Gill tonight. Paul played one of the most beautiful and soulful country swing solos on the E9th tuning I've ever heard(I've heard a lot of solos ) and I'm sure it was off the cuff too!
I would think it will be posted on the WSM/Opry archives in the next few days. I will post the link when it becomes available. |

Both Tommy White and Paul Franklin Jr are class acts all by themselves. I've admired both of them for a long time. Paul can certainly lay in some beautiful steel. I'll look forward to the link Tommy. _________________ HAL...Excel D-10 w/ 8 & 5. I remember back about 1985 I was watching Grand Ole Opry Live and I had a BETA VCR that played the short tapes and I recorded the Whites that night singing "Making Believe" and Tommy was playing steel(a rosewood Emmons)and the intro he did just overwelmed me the way he used those knee levers to drop the second string. I still have the tape but I don't have a BETA VCR to play it on. Keep up the great work Tommy and Paul, in my opinion you are both masters of the steel guitar. _________________ Marlen SD 10 3 and 5,Fender 5 String Banjo, Flinthill 5 string banjo,Johnson Resonator Guitar, Ibanez AFS75T Country/Jazz Guitar. |

The only reason I listen to the Opry is to hear Tommy and I love the Whites and Connie Smith with Gary Carter too. Love your playing, taste and tone Tommy.

Thanks Tommy,
It was good to see you last night. As I told you, I was sitting in the dressing room....In the room there was quite a conversation going on.....You started a solo on one of Jean Shepherd's songs and I had to excuse myself from the talk to listen to you work your magic..... Its rare that someones playing makes us stop to listen......You play the instrument with as much heart as you have knowledge........I hear the connection from heart to strings........Very few have that gift IMO.....

What a thrill for me to be at the Opry to see Tommy play and then to hear Paul as well was amazing. Besides hearing them both play, what was really cool to see is how excited they both were to see and hear each other. Great night! Thank you Tommy and Paul. |
