Here's a question for the Bureau Of Sho-Bud Intelligence. Sho Bud seems to have used the zigzag inlay ony briefly, maybe the late '60s and early '70s. I can only find a few images of guitars with this inlay that do NOT also have a two-tone color scheme: natural maple deck with some coloration on the apron and necks. Does anyone know whether this was a standard issue feature for a while, perhaps in the Professional line? Or, perhaps, is this a relatively recent refinishing preference?

Thanks,

Dan

I purchased a new Professional (#8106) in March/April 1971 and it had the zig zag inlay. In fact, that's it over there!

Here's a better shot, don't know if the inlay will show up or not.

Wow!

What a beaut, Herb! I don't think I've ever seen the zigzag up close enough to recognize the three-tone, 3-D effect. Very pretty!

Thanks, Dan.

It's an interesting horn. About a 1970, we think; the records have been lost. But that gives a time-frame as to when SB was using that inlay strip. The pickups are the 2-screw split-coils and not the later 3-screw they used around 72. It has "The Professional" decal, but it was a custom made guitar (according to Duane Marrs) because the switches normally found on the endplate are located in between the necks. The endplate having never been drilled means that location was original to the guitar.

Originally it was rack/barrel. It now has a Surratt undercarriage.

Nice retro photo Alan. I've got some like it somewhere.
It might be an interesting thread to start - "oldest photo of you and your steel contest".

Does anybody know of a supplier who has that inlay pattern? I've bought inlay strips from several suppliers, and nobody seems to have that one.

Not a Bud, but may give insight into the timeframe dilemma. This one is a '71.

Roger,

it's showing up okay for me. Sounds like your McAfee protection thinks it's infected in some way.
