Paul Franklin, Sr, told me that when he worked at Sho-Bud they were getting a lot of complaints about string buzzing and after investigating and experimenting he found that the gauged rollers were the cause of the problem. He said he fitted one guitar with a set of "one size" rollers and that eliminated the problem. He said David Jackson didn't want to hear that and for a long time rejected the one size roller but later relented, after getting a lot of complaints from owners, and they started using one size roller.
I had asked him about gauged rollers as they are not used on Franklin's and because of the problems they had at Sho-Bud he decided not to use gauged rollers on his guitars. I don't have any sting buzz, for example at the first fret, so it's never been a problem. It wasn't a problem for me with my old 71 PP Emmons that didn't have gauged rollers. |

I went to the convention in Phoenix a while back and one of the fellows installed guaged rollers on his Mullen and has NO string buzz in the first fret with No pressure on the bar , NO BUZZ AT ALL, my Sho-Bud was so bad that you could not play in the first three frets without really pushing down on the bar, I guess each Guitar is different we will see!! I just ordered a set |

I think you nailed it, every guitar is a different animal, just for fun check the rollers and changer end with a bonafide straightedge just to make sure nothing got drilled or machined improperly, it's a long shot but it happens |

Paul,Don Burrows made a set of gauged rollers for me a couple of years ago and the do work...You will need to send Don one of your rollers so he can take measurements and a list of the string gauges that you use. _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5...
