Can anyone give me some advice with this problem?
I have an older Marrs D10 S#078. When I Play the 3rd and 4th strings on the E9 neck There is an anoying high pitched overtone. The sound is actually louder than the fundamental note. The same sound is also on the 1,2 strings on the c6 neck. The guitar has George L's, and I have tried GHS, Ernie Ball, SIT, and a Gibson 11 I had laying around. I Lowered the pickups with no Difference. I cleaned and lubed the rollers on the nut (which are made of alumunum). I like the Sound of the Guitar on the rest of the strings. I have noticed a little of this sound on some other steels, but not to this degree of bad.
Help if you can.

Is there a groove worn into the top of the changer fingers? That can cause all kinds of strange sounds.

Thanks Jim,
No grooves on the fingers.
I thought about brass nut rollers.
This must be an unusual problem not too many responses.
Any thoughts guys?
Thank again,

This is a total long shot here. At one time I used a Digitech signal processor. It had a 12AX7 tube go microphonic & it was creating sympathetic harmonics on some notes. It made these 'dog howls' even when the processor was in bypass mode.
I'm thinking that there's a tube in your 'Black Box".....if so, try disconnecting it from your signal path. |

Hey John! You might want to contact Jeff Surratt at Show-Pro guitars. His knowlege plus what he inherited from Duane Marrs may shed some light on your problem. Respectfully submitted, RK _________________ "think MORE...play LESS" |

There might be a little play at the nut rollers. In that case you can use a drop of thicker oil and see if it cures the problem. _________________ ----------------------------------

Put a small piece of scotch tape on top of the changer finger. This will not only kill the unwanted harmonics, but also lengthen the string's life span. |
