An Anecdote from Chapter 20
"Reece provided the band for many 'Dallas' Television shows when that mean, ole, J. R. (Larry Hagman) had his frequent backyard Bar-B-Ques. The contract Reece signed specified that he should have six musicians. However, he only had five regular players, so he hired Teresa as the sixth. The problem was that she never held a guitar before. Regardless, Reece borrowed an acoustic guitar from a friend and showed her how to ACT like she knew how to play.
One day after filming, Larry came over to sit and talk with them. Then he said to Teresa,'You play the acoustic guitar, right.' Teresa sheepishly said 'yes.' Then Larry said he played a little, and asked if he could try hers.
As Teresa handed the guitar to Larry, he took hold of her hand and said, 'How in the world can you play with those long fingernails?' Teresa answered, 'Not very well, JR.'
Larry then sat and played a few chords. But soon he handed the guitar back to Teresa and said, 'I want to see you play with those long fingernails.' Reece looked at Teresa and saw the color draining from her face. Fortunately at that moment, a voice came on the PA requesting that Larry report back to the staging area. As Larry was leaving, he told Teresa he was coming back to see her play with her long nails.
When they finished filming that day, Teresa and her guitar were the first off the stage and into their car. On the way home Teresa was very quiet, but then she broke the silence and said to Reece, 'They never knew what hit them, did they.' Reece responded, 'No. We have dodged another bullet and we'll live to film another day.'"

I think I've seen Reece play a D-10 before, but with the subtitle of the book being "Mr. Universal", and with Reece being most known for his 12 string Universal playing, why does the cover show him sitting at a D-10, and sitting on a drum throne, no less? |

Jim,
Thank you for your post. When referring to the definition of the word "Universal," you will find it has more that one meaning. One is "to be found everywhere." In this instance, I'm referring to the many places all over the world he has played. The word also means "wide range." Which again I applied because of the many different styles of music he plays. There are also other definitions that are applicable.
If you wish, you may contact Reece and ask him about the seat he's sitting on. However, I know he was in a photography studio, and not in a playing environment. Therefore, he simply had to use what was available. Fred |

Thank's Fred, want to learn more about the Wright's also, you stated that there were 5 Wright brothers in the 1600's that came over here, was one of them A Little Touched???? if so, that would explain my Brother Joe's behavior! |

David,
Some people have questioned whether I was in that category. When the brothers' arrived in New England, one brother(my descendant) stayed in New Hampshire, one went to New York State, one to Maryland, one to Virginia, and the last to Georgia.
The two brothers' from VA and GA eventually migrated west. (Possibly your descendents?)
Imagine if you were the Father of these five men, and came to realize how many Wright's you were responsible for over the last four hundred plus years in the USA. If he was alive, ole Grampa would have to send out a lot of birthday cards.
