I recently purchased another Legrande III, and the prevous owner had several stickers on the guitar and when he sold me the guitar, he decided to take the stickers off in a hurry and he damaged the mica. Also, this was his "bar" guitar and somehow the front mica has a crack in it about 3 1/4 in. right of the Emmons logo. Are the front mica aprons glued on, or can I take the end plate off and slide the mica out and replace it? I would post pics of the apron but my camera went m.I.a. But where the stickers was, the mica has faded white and there is some scratches around the stickers where he decided to use his pocket knife to take the stickers off. I already sent Emmons an email, but I thought I would chime I here next to see what you guys ( and gals ) had to say. Thank you in advance!!

Austin, the front is glued on with contact cement but it is not pressured on like the top decks of Emmons guitars are. You will need to remove the endplates and use a hair dryer or heat gun to perhaps turn the cement loose. I would probably remove the endplates and remove the top aluminum trim strip and use lacquer thinner to loosen the adhesive. It is a pretty good chore but can be done.

Thanks Mr. Roller! I used some "goo gone" just a little while ago and it looks like I got the stains off of the mica but there is still a huge crack in it. But also, the more I looked at the guitar in the sunlight, it seems like the aluminum above the crack and below it is warped a little, so it must have fell over or something, but the guitar still plays good!! Thanks again Mr. Roller _________________ "Hotrod"

Just received an email from the Emmons company, they said they would redo the front apron. Thanks again to all the folks that sent me emails about the mica. I'm shipping it to Burlington next week!

I think that is the very best thing you could do Austin. You will be glad you did.

You can bet that Ron will do it correctly. He does really great work, he is a master builder.
