I'm thinking that an Ampeg VT-40 is a pretty cool amp - 4x10, lots of power, good response all the way around - I'm thinking of using an Boss RV-3 or Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail for reverb - simple set up and not a lot of knobs or switches to worry about - any thoughts? I'm playing a 70s BMI D10.

What if I swapped the 4 10s out for a single 15?

You will loose a ton of bass if swap out the 4 x10 to a 15". Been there!

We tested our last 4 x 10 Tweed and the 1-15" all tube steel amp that I build in Dallas this last weekend with an RV-7 by Digitech (with Lexicon chips) and the DL-8 by Digitech. The pro's that played it really liked the sound. I am sold on them. They do not have the background noise I get from Boss pedals that I own.
