I picked up this old Gibson lap steel yesterday and would appreciate any input into its origin. My guess is that it's a 1957 Royaltone, but am not sure. The serial number starts with a 7 followed by four other digits. It looks like the body is made of mahogany with a maple top. The fret board appears to be painted wood. The pick up is a single coil with what looks to be adjustable pole pieces.

Maybe you can find some info on the Gibson site (?) The tuners are "imported" after-market types, and not original.

Thanks. I thought the tuners were not original since they were in very good shape.

BR-6. Serial indicates '57, control knobs look right for that year.

It certainly does look like other BR-6s posted online. I've also seen some similar looking laps called Royaltones (not the early ones with the horn, but later ones from '56-'57). I wonder what the difference is. Thank you.
