Well I read a couple of posts here that said guys have tried the Genz Benz and David Eden heads and found them to work well for pedal steel. I wanted to buy a new bass head that wouldn't kill my back, so I found a used Shuttle for $425. I have a cabinet with 2 D120's in it that I have been waiting to find a twin that was converted into a head, but I decided to hook up my Shuttle to the cab and the Fessy. I hooked up my Holy Grail reverb pedal and decided to give her a try. All I can say is WOW. It has great tone tons of power (in a 4 ohm cab it's 600 watts). The eq really works well with the parametric mids. I think I just found my new rig. The cool thing is the amp head is only a little bigger than a cigar box and weighs less than 4 pounds. It is just too cool. It also has a tube preamp and you can dial in the tube versus solid state portion of the preamp. The reverb in the holy grail sounds great too. I am excited to see what this thing will really do. _________________ Carter D10 9 x 5, Nashville 112, Goodrich L10K |

I have a Shuttle 6.0 set up in my practice corner right now. I'm using a Boss RV-3 for reverb and delay, and a 15" Neo speaker. These small amps blow me away with their sound and portability. The only thing I really don't care for on the Shuttle are the extremely bright blue LED's, if they hit you straight on, they will make you see spots for several minutes. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

Modern bass amp heads have pretty much everything you need for a good steel tone - plenty of headroom, and detailed control over the midrange. I have a "big" one - a two rack sized SWR SM-500 - but there's nothing a "steel amp" can do that it won't. If am amp has the right features, I'd be more surprised if it didn't work right than if it did. The speakers for bass aren't the same, you need your Black Widows or JBL's IMO. |

I have the D120 wired up to make a 4 ohm load. That means I am running 600 watts in this configuration. Talk about headroom! The coolest part it the size and weight....you can pick it up with two fingers. _________________ Carter D10 9 x 5, Nashville 112, Goodrich L10K |
